“Um, this is way too much...”
Vanessa's voice trembled slightly, as if Ain had hurt her somewhere.
“Ain.”
“Ain?”
Seeing Ain dazed, Imeve asked with concern, “What's wrong?”
“Nothing, just a minor unexpected situation. It won't affect anything.”
Ain brushed her off with a few words. Looking at the status panel in front of him, he felt a bit puzzled.
Pale Silver Protection, the buff that dragon gave me?
Or does it have something to do with the Goddess's blessing?
A Tier 6 monster...
Could it be considered a massive jackpot?
Ain's eyes lit up.
He recalled his dragon-riding plan once again.
If he really had such a Contract Spirit, how high would his maximum mana capacity be?
7k? Or 8k?
10k didn't seem impossible either.
The maximum mana capacity Lillian brought him seemed to be less than 4k...
Although he didn't go down the summoner route in his first playthrough, and the highest-tier Contract Spirit he had ever contracted was only Tier 5.
Ain himself didn't know what it would feel like to form a contract with a Tier 6 monster.
Let alone a creature of myth.
Oh well, whatever. He could think about that later.
Ain thought to himself as he continued organizing the potions.
He might as well let that dragon draw some of the heat for him.
Seeing that Vanessa's hands were already full of potions, Ain tossed the remaining ones all at once to Imeve.
“Is it really this much?”
Staring at the large bag of bottles and jars in her hands, Imeve felt it was a bit heavy to carry.
In the temporary laboratory, Ain had finished modifying all the potions he had obtained earlier.
Seeing Imeve and Vanessa holding his masterpieces, Ain's smile gradually turned sinister.
“Hehehehehe...”
“Simply perfect.”
“Alright, put these on.”
Ain handed them each a unique mask.
Imeve took the mask and asked in confusion, “Are these the things you bought from that little shop in town just now?”
Vanessa, on the other hand, stared at the mask in her hand, which depicted a chubby monster, and complained.
“So ugly...”
“Ugh! I want to swap with yours!”
“No way, no way, bleh~”
Ain smirked and put on his own mask. It had a terrifying scar on the side, and the face of the mask was pale yet carried a hint of ferocity.
At this moment, Ain seemed to merge perfectly with the grimacing mask. The chilling aura emanating from him left both Imeve and Vanessa stunned.
“Ain, is it really okay for us to do this?”
Both of them felt that Ain's plan was unreliable.
Ain, however, picked up the last few potion bottles from the lab table, stuffed them into his waist pouch, and sneered, “Of course.”
“Since they all want Erylin to survive as the sole survivor of this operation...”
Ain's eyes turned cold, his tone laced with extreme excitement.
“If I ‘kill’ Erylin, won't they absolutely lose their minds?”
“Wahahahaha!”
...
“What's going on? It's been delayed for so long, and we're still not leaving.”
“Weren't there already a lot of monsters appearing when we neared the horde earlier? We should hurry up and get our injuries treated.”
At this moment, a group of students and many other members from various factions appeared at the main entrance of the Titan Prosecution Office's hospital.
It was not far from the city gates, and most of the injured members from this mission had been sent here for treatment.
“The Grand Chief Arbiter suddenly said we'd depart a bit later due to some unexpected changes. Who knows why?”
“Departing later is actually quite good. Wasn't Erylin sent here for treatment because she wasn't feeling well?”
“She's never missed a mission before. If she can recover before we head out next time, it'll be good for her.”
“This mission also affects everyone's evaluation. If she's absent, her rating for this mission will probably be very low.”
As soon as these words were spoken, several girls nearby immediately gathered around, worrying about Erylin's physical condition.
“Erylin has always worked so hard in these areas. If she misses it even once, it would be a huge blow, wouldn't it?”
“By the way, which ward is Erylin in?”
The students chatted idly as they entered the hospital, marveling at how grand and well-equipped the facilities were.
“Huh? That is...”
One of the students seemed to spot someone familiar and shouted, “Senior Emil!”
“Emil? The fifth-year? I remember... was he in Group Three or Group Five?”
“Yes, yes, that's him! The leader of Group Five!”
Following the direction the student pointed, everyone looked over at Emil, who was wearing the Typhon Chain uniform.
At that moment, he was bending down, feeding a lollipop to a little girl beside him.
“How is it? Does it taste good?”
“Big brother has plenty more here~”
The little girl happily sucked on the candy and excitedly reached her hands out toward Emil, indicating she wanted more.
Emil responded with a smile as well.
“You can have more, but let big brother give you a hug first...”
In the very next second, the little girl's mother suddenly materialized in front of Emil and slapped him across the face.
For no other reason than the fact that Emil's smile was incredibly creepy.
“Let's go! Don't eat anything given by people like him from now on!”
Emil looked utterly devastated.
“Wait! No! Don't go!”
The mother glared at Emil with sheer disgust and aversion, then threw the candy the little girl had just been sucking on right at his head.
Everyone was left utterly dumbfounded by this scene.
“So Senior Emil is actually that kind of person...”
“Hey! You over there! I heard that!”
Emil quickly stood up, resuming his usual serious demeanor.
He quickly walked over to the students and lectured them like an elder, “This is a place where we spread love. Isn't it our duty to make children, who haven't yet experienced the harshness of society, feel warmth and affection?”
“Why do I feel like you're the harshness of society, Senior...”
“What?”
“Nothing, nothing...”
Emil crossed his arms and asked, “You guys are Group Three led by Professor Finn, right? Aren't you supposed to head out of the city to search for the crashed transport ship? Why are you here?”
One of the students replied, “It was delayed because of something, though we don't know the reason either...”
“The higher-ups told us to rest and get treated here if needed, and they also told us to stay alert and protect the safety of this place.”
Emil asked in confusion, “You received such an order too?”
Soon, Emil smiled and walked over to a nearby wall, tapping it lightly with his finger. “No need to worry too much. This place belongs to the Empire's Titan Prosecution Office.”
“The higher-ups telling us to temporarily guard this place is just a formality.”
“Don't be so tense. The wall design of this hospital uses cold steel rock mined from the northern veins, and it's even engraved with quite a few reinforcing magic circuits.”
“Besides, what kind of place is this? A sacred sanctuary that saves countless lives! Even a thief coming here to steal would have to consult their conscience first!”
Emil laughed as he leaned his back against the wall.
“For decades, nothing has ever gone wrong in a place like this.”
“How could some wicked scoundrel possibly come here now to take revenge on society—”
BOOM!!!
A sudden explosion erupted right behind Emil, and billowing dust and smoke instantly swept across the entire floor.
“What happened... cough, cough!”
“An explosion? Where did it come from!”
Coughs erupted from the students all across the floor. Emil covered his mouth, struggling to open his eyes as he looked toward the three figures emerging from the smoke.
Two masked girls, standing to the left and right, held up signs and chanted slogans with immense reluctance.
“B-Boss is mighty... Boss is invincible...”
“Boss is unrivaled in the world! Boss is domineering!”
In front of them, a silver-gray-haired young man draped in a black robe laughed wildly, looking utterly intoxicated.
“Wahahahaha!”
“Tremble, bugs!”
Ain flipped his silver-gray hair and extended his right hand, declaring solemnly:
“Standing before you is the number-one executive of the Nightingale Secret Order, master of forbidden necromancy—Ai... Bah! Lord Nolan!”
Ain's eyes turned cold with malice, and his wild smile looked as if it could swallow everyone whole.
“Today, not a single one of you will leave this place alive!”
“Mwahahahaha!”
Finally, unable to bear Ain't ridiculous villain act any longer, Vanessa turned her head away. Even with her mask on, the blush on her face made it impossible for her to look the students in the eye.
This is so embarrassing!!!
