The woman—or more accurately, the severed head—underwent a sudden change as her eyes snapped wide open.
This was no romantic fairytale like Sleeping Beauty awakening; she was just a head, and by all logic, she shouldn't have been opening her eyes at all.
This was fucking haunted!
Wu Shuang froze in shock, locking eyes with the awakened woman—only to find that her fucking eyes didn't even have pupils!
Fuck!
Every hair on Wu Shuang's body stood on end as every cell screamed at him to pull his hand back immediately, but he was a step too late.
Just as he began to move, the dense golden locks filling the casket whipped toward him.
Just a second ago, he had been marveling at how smooth and beautiful her golden hair was, but in the next second, it enveloped him completely. The strands bound his upper body like steel wires—including his head—and some even pierced beneath his skin.
Moreover, the golden hair was rapidly losing its color, fading into a silvery white within seconds. The strands that had punctured his body began turning red, the crimson hue creeping upward. The thing seemed to be draining his blood.
Holy fuck!
Still gripping the hand axe in his other hand and realizing he couldn't break free, Wu Shuang swung the axe straight at the head. But the blow hit nothing solid—the impact felt off, like chopping into a soft cushion.
"She's... not in the casket?!" Wu Shuang exclaimed in shock.
Snared by the silver-white hair, his vision was entirely blocked. His head and left hand were completely wrapped, and a few strands had even pierced into his eyes, making it impossible to open them, let alone see.
He had swung purely based on memory. Feeling around high and low, he realized the casket was empty except for the sword.
But right now, no legendary divine weapon would be of any help in time.
He felt the woman's head crawling up his body, scaring the soul right out of him. He tried to swing the axe at himself again, but failed—his right hand had been bound by hair as well.
This damn thing was unexpectedly stronger than him.
Immediately after, a sharp pain shot through his neck, as if something had bitten him. At the same time, a system warning sounded in his ears.
【Warning: You are rapidly losing your Humanity...】
Fuck!
Wu Shuang heard the alert, but he no longer had the strength to resist. Thrashing about in desperation, he lost his footing and tumbled backward onto the floor, shattering several earthenware jars filled with rainwater.
Soloed by a dead person's head...
What an entirely unexpected way to die.
Wu Shuang rolled a few more times before even more hair wrapped around him, binding him tightly like a zongzi. Unable to move, he gradually rolled his eyes back under the draining sensation and waves of sharp pain.
...
Inside the cellar.
Wu Shuang, bound hand and foot by silver-white hair, fell completely motionless.
A head rested heavily on him, her mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth as she bit ferociously into his neck, draining him ravenously. Her face was twisted and deathly pale, looking every bit like a monster.
After gorging herself for about ten seconds, the woman's condition shifted once more.
As specks of white light and fresh blood surged into her body, color gradually returned to her face. Her deathly pale eyes fluttered and rolled, pupils reappearing as though she had returned to life, vibrant with vitality. Opening her dark eyes wide to look down, she instantly realized something was wrong and hastily unclasped her jaw. The hair instantly loosened, squirming as it retracted into the back of her head.
By now, however, Wu Shuang was completely out of commission and unconscious. His body twitched occasionally with his eyes rolled back, covered from head to toe in dense, tiny bleeding punctures, looking as though he had contracted some strange affliction.
"What am I..."
The woman spoke, looking at Wu Shuang and then at herself.
When she realized she was nothing more than a head, she shrieked in horror and sprang several meters away.
"What on earth am I..."
She muttered to herself, finding the reality impossible to accept. Her mind was a complete blank; she didn't even know her own name, let alone understand what was happening.
Yet she knew the name of the man lying there: Wu Shuang—a very strange name. She even possessed a portion of his memories, as though she had experienced them firsthand, killing several living corpses.
It seemed she had done something awful... like killing someone.
"Humanity... I absorbed his Humanity. I need Humanity to maintain my sanity.
"No... why do I know these things? I..."
Trapped in confusion, the woman looked toward Wu Shuang again and noticed his chest was still rising and falling. He wasn't dead yet.
...
An unknown amount of time passed.
Wu Shuang slowly stirred awake. His head felt heavy and throbbed with intense pain, as though filled with lead and repeatedly stabbed with dozens of needles—an indescribable agony.
He struggled to open his eyes. The light was dim and his vision blurry. Nearby flickered a fire that felt vaguely familiar, yet he couldn't quite wrap his mind around what had happened.
Where was he? Why was he lying here?
Everything around him was familiar, giving him an overwhelming sense of deja vu, but his memory remained tantalizingly out of reach—an infuriating, itch-he-couldn't-scratch sensation.
"You're awake? Don't rush to get up yet; I'm still applying medicine."
"Oh..."
Wu Shuang replied obediently. He heard a woman's voice—gentle, warm, and pleasant to the ear—prompting him to respond instinctively.
Gradually, sensation returned to his body. Someone was lightly caressing him with cool, soft hands, smearing on some kind of ointment... Wait, why did it smell kind of foul?
His vision grew clearer, allowing him to finally take in his surroundings and see the woman in front of him, who seemed busy leaning over his body.
She was truly gorgeous, so beautiful that Wu Shuang had never seen such a perfect woman in his life. Her features were exquisitely carved with zero flaws, and her long silver-white hair even drifted gently in the air.
Yet she felt familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before, though he couldn't recall where just then...
"Holy shit!"
Wu Shuang let out a loud shout and immediately scrambled backward. The woman was literally just a head—there was nothing below her neck! The realization jolted him fully awake in an instant.
This was a fucking female ghost! No, a demoness!!
Memories flooded back into his mind. Wu Shuang's pupils trembled as everything returned at once. He immediately looked around as if searching for something, but in the next instant, hair bound him like a zongzi, leaving him unable to budge.
"Are you looking for this, or this... or perhaps this?"
The woman spoke, her voice still as gentle and pleasant as before, but it sent cold chills across Wu Shuang's skin. He saw weapon after weapon lifted by her hair, including his hand axe, his short club, and even the rapier over a meter in length.
Wu Shuang's expression hardened as he quickly assessed his situation.
Though unsure how he was still alive, the situation remained grim. He had been captured by this demoness, carried onto a stone pedestal, stripped of his shirt, and left covered in fine puncture wounds. However, ointment had been applied—specifically the Spoiled Holy Blessed Grease, which looked nearly used up.
"What on earth are you?"
Wu Shuang asked in a cold voice, unable to make sense of what this demoness was.
The latter wore a troubled expression that was almost endearing. Her silver-white hair formed the shape of a hand and scratched her head, seemingly trying to figure out how to explain...
Wu Shuang shook his head, doing his best not to look at this strange creature. Just her face alone possessed an inherently demonic charm, making her extremely dangerous.
