Elvia Rolan.
Lin Gui raised his head and met Elvia's enchanting, dazzling smile.
Her golden hair shimmered like liquid under the sunlight.
Within her gold-melted eyes was a perfectly measured blend of friendliness and majesty.
He was stunned for a moment, his gaze losing focus for a brief second.
It was as if he had been blinded by that overly brilliant smile.
A long-awaited patience was suppressed in his eyes.
He returned to his expression of unshakeable calm.
He raised a finger and pointed to the winding, endless queue outside the post office.
His voice was as flat as if he were stating that the weather today was nice.
“Please queue up, thank you.”
The impeccable smile on Elvia's face stiffened despite herself.
She followed Lin Gui's finger and turned her head to look out the door.
The commoners, who had been peering in curiously and whispering, immediately broke into a cold sweat as if they had been doused with ice water the moment they met the Princess's gaze.
The crowd parted like it had been split by an invisible blade, frantically retreating to both sides in a panic.
The queue that had been packed tight enough to be impassable was cleared out within a few breaths!
The smile on Elvia's face became natural once more.
She elegantly took a light step to the right, standing precisely where the first person in the queue had been.
“Now.”
She tilted her chin slightly, her smile once again flawless.
“Can you hear my request now, Messenger Mage from New Covenant City?”
Beside a commoner's head that was curiously poking into the post office, another elven face with white hair, crimson eyes, and agile pointed ears stretched out.
Theia furrowed her brows, her crimson eyes like those of a highly alert predator.
She was deathly locked onto this uninvited member of the royal family.
“Name of recipient, address, and physical characteristics.”
Lin Gui lowered his eyes, picked up a quill, and asked in a formulaic manner.
He acted as if the person in front of him were just a most ordinary customer.
The Princess chuckled softly, her red lips parting as she fluently listed a series of information.
“Carter Royal Capital, the rebel leader, Caesar.”
“The address is the ‘Dice and Blood’ underground casino.”
“As for the appearance... a vagrant with one blind eye and one broken leg.”
Lin Gui's hand holding the quill paused, and he raised his head, looking at her with a frown.
Then, he reached out his hand, his tone still flat and emotionless.
“Pay up.”
Elvia was visibly taken aback.
She had anticipated various reactions from him.
Shock, fear, refusal, or even an immediate turn to hostility.
What she had never expected were these three business-like words.
It felt like a punch thrown with full force landing on nothing, leaving a dull ache of frustration in her chest.
She quickly composed herself, covering her lips with a silk glove and letting out a lady-like laugh.
“Haha, I was joking, of course; as a member of the royal family, how could I possibly have contact with a rebel leader?”
She leaned forward slightly, her voice lowered with a hint of ambiguous seduction.
“Actually, rather than sending a letter, I would much prefer to have a private conversation with Mage Lin Gui... in a romantic candlelight restaurant, just the two of us.”
Crack!
At the door, Theia subconsciously tightened her left hand.
The doorframe, made of hardwood, was actually crushed by her grip!
Wood chips fell like rain.
Lin Gui acted as if he hadn't heard the sound.
He simply raised his hand and made a clear gesture of refusal.
“Sorry, I'm busy. I don't have time.”
The smile on the Princess's face stiffened again, and the corner of her eye twitched uncontrollably.
She stole a glance toward the area outside the post office.
She saw commoners who didn't dare get close but were still craning their necks to watch.
Suppressing her anger, she suddenly leaned forward, almost pressing against Lin Gui's ear.
In a voice only the two of them could hear, she spoke softly yet coldly.
“I know what you did in the Black Demon Forest; if you don't want to die, I suggest you do as I say.”
After finishing her piece, she elegantly sat back down.
Her expression became kind again, as if the threat she just uttered was merely the whisper of a lover.
“How about it?”
Lin Gui acted as if he hadn't heard a word.
He organized the scattered letters on his desk, showing no intention of acknowledging her.
Just as the smile on the Princess's face was about to collapse, Lin Gui spoke.
“Are you planning to call that Legendary Knight back?”
He paused and finally looked up.
His gaze swept over the Princess's seductive figure with a hint of undisguised scrutiny.
“Relying only on your... well, High-tier High Rank strength?”
“Do you have the confidence to cross the entire wilderness and bring that knight order back?”
The smile on the Princess's face vanished completely.
Since the other party dared to show his face again, it seemed he was well-prepared.
She clenched her fists until her nails nearly dug into her palms, her voice squeezed out through gritted teeth.
“As the City Lord of Caran, I have the authority to mobilize the Defense Force to arrest you! Even if I have no evidence!”
Lin Gui replied with a scoff that was laced with cold irony.
The other party's reaction was within his expectations, and he even felt a sense of relief from it.
“See? This is exactly how you so-called ‘noble and supreme’ people love to act.”
“What a coincidence; I'm the same type of person as you.”
“I don't need to see whether you are good or evil either.”
“The moment you order my arrest...”
Before he could finish his sentence, a cold killing intent like a physical arrow instantly locked onto the Princess's brow from Theia's direction at the door!
The Princess felt a chill on the back of her neck, as if she were about to be completely pierced through in the next second!
Lin Gui's voice continued indifferently, yet it carried an unquestionable cruelty.
“Theia's arrow will pierce through your head and send you to join the former City Lord for that candlelight party you want.”
“Are you not afraid that the knights from the Royal Capital will strike back at you for this?!”
The Princess's voice turned slightly sharp from shock and fury.
Lin Gui acted as if he had heard an amusing joke, and the corners of his mouth curled into a cold arc.
“Setting aside whether you can actually do it...”
“Even if you could...”
He paused as a sense of detachment radiated from him.
“Do you think I would be afraid?”
He stared at the Princess.
Deep within those eyes that always appeared flat or even somewhat cynical, darkness and madness that would make one's heart shudder were surging at this moment.
In an extremely detached manner, he said softly:
“Please do not test my patience.”
“I have not a shred of goodwill toward the royalty or nobility.”
“In fact, every day when I pass the slums, I find myself thinking about how to twist the heads off you gluttonous, bloated sacks of meat who gorge yourselves on the livelihoods of the people, then feed them to the pigs with a side of shit.”
Such foul, violent, and rebellious words were spoken in such a calm tone, creating a terrifying contrast.
Elvia's face instantly turned deathly pale, and she even instinctively took half a step back.
It was as if the person sitting before her were not a mage, but a fierce beast from the abyss wearing human skin.
Lin Gui suddenly leaned back, and the terrifying aura around him instantly vanished, returning him to his lazy appearance.
He even reached out and gently patted the back of the Princess's stiff hand, which still maintained its frozen smile.
The gesture was as gentle as if he were soothing a startled little animal.
“So...”
His voice also became mild.
“Let us just mind our own business and have no contact with each other, all right?”
“By the way... the scenery along the way from the Royal Capital to Caran City must have left a deep impression on you.”
“?”
