Who was calling for help?
Lynn did not rush over. He first checked the image returned by his sonic detection.
A two-meter-tall, four-legged square object was stumbling toward two workers wearing "mole hats."
Undoubtedly, the four-legged square object was the power mine cart they had encountered this morning.
Had it lost control?
This was a perfect opportunity to test Little Bone's strength.
Just as this thought arose in Lynn's mind, a series of clicking bone-joint sounds suddenly rang out beside him.
Thud—
Little Bone's tail whipped the ground, compressing to its limit before exploding with force, instantly propelling Little Bone forward.
Even Lynn could not quite make out its movements.
Only his Echolocation barely managed to capture Little Bone's trajectory.
In just two or three seconds, Little Bone had already reached the power mine cart.
The power mine cart seemed to have gone mad. Its four mechanical legs stomped the ground at a high frequency, making dull, heavy thuds.
Its erratic steps caused the mine cart to completely lose its sense of direction. The heavy body, filled to the brim with ore, slammed violently into the rock wall on one side.
Crash—
Dust and sand billowed, and loose rocks shook loose.
But the mine cart's target remained clear: to destroy all moving objects.
The mine cart straightened its mechanical legs again, intending to charge at the two miners trapped in the corner.
If crushed by a multi-ton metal mine cart, Lynn could hardly imagine what would be left of the two miners.
Fortunately, in the next second, Little Bone appeared in front of the mine cart.
Little Bone pressed its palms against the mine cart, bracing its tail on the ground behind it as a pivot, trying to stop the vehicle.
Unfortunately, the result was not very ideal.
The tensed bone tail dragged a deep groove into the ground. Faced with several tons of impact, even Little Bone could not stop the mine cart outright.
Behind Little Bone, one of the miners, who had already closed his eyes to await death, quietly peeked open.
“Ah! A monster!”
Seeing a skeleton blocking the runaway mine cart for him, the miner did not feel the relief of surviving a disaster. Instead, he was filled with despair, believing he was truly doomed.
With a loud cry, the miner actually fainted from sheer terror.
Little Bone looked back at the miner in confusion.
Monster? Is he talking about me?
As it wondered, its soul fire received a message from Lynn through psionic energy.
“Little Bone, remove the magic stone from the power mine cart first. It's right on top of the cart.”
Looking back at the mine cart, Little Bone pulled its tail from the ground and whipped it out, hooking the upper edge of the cart's container.
Immediately after, its tail clicked and tightened. The pulling force was transmitted, directly swinging Little Bone through the air in an arc.
Little Bone flipped and landed on top of the bumpy, shaking mine cart.
Sensing something, the mine cart immediately tried to shake the intruder off, but Little Bone's tail locked tightly onto the container, refusing to let go no matter how violently the cart shook.
The mine cart veered directly toward the rock wall, intending to crush the skeleton on its back.
But before that could happen, Little Bone had already pulled out the magic stone from inside the mine cart.
The mine cart's movements instantly became sluggish. Its mechanical legs, losing their power source, were the first to stop running.
Then, the entire container tilted to one side.
Thud—
The multi-ton container crashed to the ground. The latches on the container had already broken during the malfunction, causing a large amount of ore to spill out.
Lynn walked over and tapped Little Bone's skull in satisfaction.
Little Bone's strength had given him quite a surprise.
He had originally planned to use Magic Missiles to blow off the power mine cart's mechanical legs.
He had not expected Little Bone to solve the problem all by itself.
In terms of close combat alone, Little Bone was probably slightly stronger than Lynn, roughly on par with an ordinary Tier 2 Fighter.
In that case, Lynn could rest assured leaving Little Bone outside the town to work and farm Bloodline Points for him.
After encouraging Little Bone, Lynn looked at the ore on the ground and noticed something unusual.
These ores gave him a feeling very similar to the Graveyard.
It seemed... filled with psionic energy.
Was there really such an ore?
Lynn did not know much about the output of this mine.
“Is this your construct?”
Someone suddenly spoke to Lynn from the side.
Looking over, it was one of the miners saved by Little Bone.
This person did not seem afraid of Little Bone at all. Seeing a skeleton standing before him, he actually showed a look of fascination.
However, Little Bone was a bit frightened by his gaze and hid behind Lynn.
Moreover, even though this guy was a miner, he wore a monocle and looked like a scholar.
Seeing Lynn's strange look, the “miner” hurriedly explained in embarrassment, “Ah, sorry, I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? I am Cowen, a second-year student at the Vallenia Royal Capital Mage Academy. Like you, I am a student of the School of Necromancy.”
Lynn nodded.
No wonder his colleague had fainted from fright while this guy was not afraid at all. It turned out he was a Mage from the School of Necromancy.
But he was wrong about one thing. Lynn was no Necromancer; he just knew a bit of skeleton modification techniques.
Lynn asked casually, “Why are you working here?”
The Royal Capital Mage Academy. Lynn had heard his Mentor, Gray, mention it. Mentor Gray used to be a guest professor there.
It mainly taught spellcasters from commoner or minor noble backgrounds who were well-off but not wealthy enough to hire private tutors like Betty.
Lynn could hardly imagine students from there coming to work in this dark, gloomy mine.
Seeing Cowen's dusty face, he had indeed been doing real work, not just pretending.
Cowen adjusted the crooked “mole hat” on his head. The hat squeaked, reminding him it needed to be recharged.
This thing was invented by dwarves—a hat driven by bio-energy. Part of the energy generated by the workers' movement would be absorbed by the hat, emitting a faint light.
Cowen's expression was somewhat bitter, seemingly unwilling to bring up the past.
“I... when I was..., I ran up a debt. But as you know, the use of Necromancy is highly restricted on the continent. Thus, as an ordinary student, it's hard for me to make money legally using Necromancy.”
“At that time, a professor from our school told me that he had a research project in the Wingen Town mine that required many Mages. The subsidy for this project was very generous, so I came.”
When mentioning the reason for his debt, Cowen was extremely vague, so much so that even Lynn could not hear clearly.
However, Cowen explained clearly why he came to work here afterward.
A professor from the School of Necromancy having a research project in the mine?
