The Gui Tribe.
Gui Li led the priestesses to guard the entrance of the mountain path.
It was currently noon on the second day.
Since receiving the command from the great Gui God yesterday, the tribespeople had not dared to relax for a single moment.
Not long after they had eaten lunch and taken up their watch, a strange movement suddenly appeared in the distance.
A massive, heavy, low-hanging shroud of clouds and mist drifted over from the distant horizon.
It seemed slow, but in reality, it was traveling at extreme speed, drawing much closer in the blink of an eye.
The people of the Gui Tribe tensed up.
As it drew nearer, they could see yellow sand kicking up and swirling wildly through the air beneath the heavy cloud cover.
It looked like a troop of riders galloping toward them.
“Holy Maiden, we have a situation!” a hunter immediately reported.
“Prepare for battle!” Gui Li shouted. She turned to the witch beside her. “Gui Hua, go and inform the Gui God!”
The entire tribe instantly grew tense. The elderly, weak, and young retreated, while the strong and robust seized their weapons.
Before long, a group of riders arrived from the distance, pulling up in front of the mountain pass.
When Gui Li clearly saw the newcomers and the Bo beneath them, she furrowed her brow slightly.
No longer hiding, she walked straight out.
“Hunting Chief Tai, what brings you and your men here?”
Gui Li spoke in an unfriendly tone. She then looked up at the massive, heavy clouds that had already completely settled over the mountain, a faint sense of unease rising in her heart.
The dark clouds hung so low and heavy they seemed ready to crush the mountain.
Tai Shan and his men clearly did not come with good intentions.
Unexpectedly, Tai Shan paid her no mind. Instead, he looked up at the heavy cloud cover in the sky and shouted with deep respect, “Lord Dragon God! This tribe is a vassal of ours. If we are to find the Bo God, we must slay the Gui God first! Otherwise, once the battle begins, we might find ourselves attacked from both front and back, which would be highly disadvantageous!”
“???”
Gui Li was utterly bewildered.
This speech made absolutely no sense. What Dragon God? What vassal? What attack from both sides?
What nonsense are you spouting?!
She looked up at the sky; there was only a massive, low, heavy blanket of dark clouds, and absolutely nothing else.
Seeing this, she glared at Tai Shan and snapped,
“Tai Shan, cut your nonsense! When did our tribe ever become a vassal of yours? And a 'Dragon God'? Since when does the dragon race have a god? I think you've lost your mind.”
Before she could even finish her sentence, a line of yellow sand surged up behind Tai Shan, rolling forward like a mighty torrent.
He actually brought an army?
Seeing this, Gui Li grew even angrier.
“Tai Shan, what are you trying to do?!”
“Our tribe has no grievances with yours. If you dare make a move against us, the wrath of the great Gui God will ensure you get more than you bargained for!”
“Furthermore, I have already notified the other tribes. When they arrive and see your tribe acting like this, the deities will be furious. Even your great Bo God won't be able to protect you then!”
But the moment the words left her mouth, the yellow sand dispersed, and she was shocked to discover that the surging wave of dust was actually filled with flood dragons, each over ten meters long!
What?!
Only then did she recall Tai Shan's respectful shout to the heavens: Lord Dragon God.
Could there really be a Dragon God?!
Gui Li was thrown into a state of panic and uncertainty. She had just spoken so arrogantly; if a true Dragon God really was present here, this would not end well.
But Tai Shan did not reply. He merely watched in silence, as if waiting for something.
The unease in Gui Li's heart grew stronger.
The Gui God had indeed said that a great calamity was imminent, one that concerned its very survival.
That was why it had been so terrified.
Yet, it had been unable to divine where the calamity would come from or when it would strike.
This uncertainty had kept it from sleeping or eating in peace.
Looking at things now, if the calamity was indeed fated for today, could it be this very threat before them?
But before she could ponder any further...
The sky began to flash with lightning and rumble with thunder as the dark clouds boiled. A magnificent divine pressure descended, carrying the sounds of wind, fire, and thunder, piercing straight into her ears.
“Burn.”
The single word fell like a clap of thunder, shaking her very soul and leaving her unable to stand steady.
The valley echoed with the sound.
There is a god above the clouds!
Gui Li felt her scalp go numb. Immediately after, she watched in horror as group after group of dragons emerged from the heavy, massive dark clouds following the echoes of wind, fire, and thunder.
Some were over twenty meters long, while others reached the physical limit of thirty-nine meters.
Once the swarm of dragons had descended, a fifty-meter Red Dragon glided out.
It looked relaxed, yet carried a sharp, imposing edge, exuding an extraordinary aura.
Could this be the Dragon God?
“No!!”
Gui Li dismissed the thought in an instant.
How could that sound of wind, fire, and thunder, or that magnificent divine pressure, possibly be produced by a fifty-meter Red Dragon?
What sent an even deeper chill down her spine upon closer reflection was that the word had been spoken in human language, not a dragon's roar.
The terrifying existence hidden in the clouds can actually speak?!
Not to mention her, even Tai Shan, Si He, and the others were deeply shaken, their hearts in a tumult of awe.
The shock they felt when they first heard the Dragon God say, “Take me to find your god,” seemed to wash over them all over again.
Although Tai Shan and his men had been in extreme torment and fear back then, they still could not conceal the shock and terror in their hearts.
As for Si He and her people, they had been frozen to the spot, unable to regain their composure for a long time.
Hearing it again now made Tai Shan and his men tremble inside.
But Si He and her tribe felt their spirits soar. Clutching their bows and spears, they were eager to distinguish themselves in battle.
“Roar!!”
Suddenly, a flood dragon roared in fury, and all the flood dragons on the ground bellowed in unison.
In an instant, their dragon might shook the heavens.
Their blood boiling, the flood dragons charged as one toward the mountain pass.
Si He's tribe followed closely behind.
Snapping out of her shock, Gui Li hurriedly bellowed, “Loose arrows!”
Numerous figures suddenly stood up at the mountain pass, drawing their bows to the limit and releasing a volley of ten thousand arrows.
The arrowheads were tipped with fire, raining down like a fiery deluge.
Yet, when they struck the flood dragons, they were effortlessly deflected by their hard scales, unable to inflict even a scratch.
Protected by their Bo, Tai Shan and his men had no fear of the weapons.
However, Si He and her people had to dodge and weave to avoid the projectiles.
Before long, the ground began to tremble.
Giant land tortoises began to emerge from the valley one after another.
The smaller ones were over ten meters long, the larger ones were thirty to forty meters, and the largest was a whopping fifty meters.
Their bodies were like white jade, and their heads resembled red tassels.
Wearing suits of armor and harnesses, they carried massive boulders on their backs.
“Release!”
Gui Li commanded, and the people on the backs of the tortoises released their catapults.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Dozens of giant boulders whistled through the air.
A flood dragon on the ground whipped its tail, shattering them to pieces.
Roar! Roar! Roar!
The dragons in the sky roared in unison.
Suddenly, a violent gale swept through the area.
The fiery arrows were blown back into the Gui Tribe's settlement, igniting their wooden cabins and haystacks.
In an instant, a raging fire erupted.
The people of the Gui Tribe cried out, “Fire! There's a fire!”
The Gui tortoises in the tribe suddenly expanded their bodies.
The flames were entirely sucked into them.
Leaving behind only a few charred ruins and wisps of lingering smoke.
“Oh, a divine ability that absorbs flames?”
Haoyuan watched silently through the clouds.
“It seems the deity of the Gui Tribe is a giant white tortoise that lives on land. I wonder when it will finally show itself.”
“Let's see how long you can hold out.”
On the ground, the fires of battle had just been lit.
Tai Xie whispered to Tai Shan, “Big brother, did you lead the Dragon God here to weaken its strength?”
“Precisely,” Tai Shan replied. “The Gui God, the deity of the Gui Tribe, has the power to control fire. It's a natural counter to fire-breathing dragons. The thirty-nine-meter dragon of the Feilian Tribe was captured with the help of the Gui God's familiars.”
“So that's how it is.” Tai Xie rubbed his chin. “If the Dragon God didn't believe our claim of being a vassal tribe, you could bring up this secret to draw the Dragon God into a clash with the Gui God. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! Big brother, you are truly clever!”
“It's too early to celebrate,” Tai Shan ignored Tai Xie's flattery. “The dragon race is extremely powerful. The Gui God will definitely have to make a personal appearance. We'll just have to see how much damage it can inflict on the Dragon God. Even if it falls short, it would still be good if they can kill a few more dragons. At that point, we might be able to make up for our failures with these contributions...”
