These people were highly professional, searching with extreme efficiency. Soon, one of them entered Freya's room. He glanced at her without saying a word, then immediately bent down to search, his first target being the bed.
Seeing this, Freya didn't actually feel much anxiety. She was just worried and sighed silently. It looked like this simulation was about to end.
Sure enough, the official immediately discovered the scroll under the bed and pulled it out. He looked at Freya with a grim expression.
Freya said, “Uh... well, if I said I have no idea what this is, would you believe me?”
Of course he wouldn't. Who would believe such nonsense?
The man immediately drew his gun. Freya sighed silently. You really shouldn't hide things under the bed! Just as she was about to end the simulation to save herself from taking a bullet, Kuro suddenly appeared behind the official and delivered a swift kick straight to his temple.
Thud!
The man was sent flying, crashing into the adjacent wall and leaving a web of cracks in the plaster. As for the man himself, he went down like a light, completely knocked out.
Freya was stunned. “What are you doing?”
The tail behind Kuro swayed slowly. Pouting, she said, “Aren't you the princess? Why did he want to kill you?”
But what puzzled Freya was, “Why did you help me?”
Kuro said, “Why not? You let me stay here for so many days and gave me yummy food every day. I really like you! Since someone wanted to kill you, of course I had to beat him up.”
But the problem was, wasn't Kuro's employer Trig? Normally, Kuro and Trig should be on the same side, right?
So from the very beginning, Freya hadn't even thought of asking this catgirl for help. If anything, the fact that she wasn't standing on the opposite side was already a blessing.
Freya said, “These people are all Trig's men, and I am Trig's enemy. Is it really okay for you to help me?”
Kuro tilted her head slightly, looking puzzled. “Hmm~ If I remember correctly, isn't that Trig guy the Prime Minister of this country? And aren't you the princess of this country? How could you be enemies?”
Good grief. It turned out this catgirl hadn't understood the situation from start to finish. Because Freya was used to being around high-IQ individuals like Euphy, and all the enemies she had encountered before were also very clever, suddenly dealing with a simpleton threw her off a bit.
Kuro said, “Besides, Trig and I only had a one-time employment relationship. He hired me to steal potions, but I failed, so there's nothing between us anymore. But Freya, you're a good person, meow! Don't be afraid. You protected me before, so I will protect you now!”
The commotion in the bedroom was loud enough to naturally attract the attention of the others outside. Jessica walked quickly toward the room, with Duke Holmes following closely behind. This left Euphy completely at a loss for what to do.
Even though she knew that the current situation wasn't real, she still wanted to do something. But she didn't know what she could do. Was she supposed to attack her own father directly?
At the doorway, Jessica's eyes immediately landed on the team member collapsed against the wall and the scroll in his hand. She raised her right hand, electrical sparks crackling at her fingertips as they condensed into the shape of a spear.
But in the very next second, before she could even warm it up, the newly materialized spear vanished into thin air, only to reappear in Kuro's hand. She said, “Good stuff, meow! I'll be taking this.”
Jessica was left utterly dazed, a massive question mark practically hovering over her head.
At the same time, Kuro tucked Freya under her other arm and bolted straight for the door. She was incredibly fast. To Freya, who was currently just an ordinary person, it felt like riding a wild roller coaster—her body was flying forward while her soul struggled to keep up, making her feel terribly motion-sick.
Still dazed, Jessica was kicked by Kuro and sent flying backward, crashing right into Duke Holmes behind her. As she cleared the doorway, Kuro swept her tail, not forgetting to snatch the contract scroll off the ground.
Then, her speed surged even further. The catgirl practically dissolved into a black afterimage, dashing straight out of the Holmes mansion.
A moment later, on a rooftop somewhere in the city, Freya was kneeling on the ground, retching. She had no doubt that if Kuro's burst speed had been any faster, she would have been torn to pieces by the G-force.
Kuro said with sheepish hindsight, “Oops, sorry, meow! I didn't control my strength very well. How about... I give you this as compensation?”
As she spoke, Kuro handed over the spear in her hand. In truth, this weapon was bound to its owner; even if Jessica threw it, she could recall it at any time with a thought.
But the ridiculous part was that just a moment ago, Kuro had actually 'stolen' the ownership binding itself. Now, the weapon was no longer bound to Jessica, but to Kuro.
After all, as a thief who had been commissioned to steal a Rank Seven potion, Kuro's strength was naturally formidable.
Freya waved her hand. Compared to the spear, she was much more concerned about their current situation. “So what do we do now? We must both be wanted criminals by now. Do you have a way to get me out of here?”
Kuro's tail swayed gently behind her. Blinking her cute eyes, she said, “Nope, meow!”
If she had a way, she wouldn't have broken into the Holmes mansion to steal food in the first place.
Kuro said, “How about... I just keep running and hiding with you? We can wait until the King can't take the pressure of the city lockdown anymore and is forced to lift the occult array covering the city.”
Freya didn't even know what to say. “The King is probably already dead.”
Kuro tilted her head in pure feline confusion. “Meow?”
Freya continued, “Trig is the one in charge now. Knowing that I'm still in the city, there's no way he'll lift the city lockdown.”
Kuro said, “Then how about... I just keep running and hiding with you? Once Dad and Uncle Kahn realize I'm missing, they'll definitely come to rescue me.”
Kuro's father was likely a high-rank Earth Pathway extraordinary. As for this Uncle Kahn... why did that name sound so familiar? Suddenly, a thought struck Freya. She asked, “Wait, Kuro, do you know Luna?”
Kuro said, “I do, meow! But Auntie Luna is super weird. I don't really like her.”
Freya was speechless.
Good grief. This catgirl... was actually a member of the Society of Truth?
