War Freya flew with blistering speed. A trip to the capital that would normally take several days by carriage took her only five or six minutes. What was rather absurd was that Life Freya, who was traveling to the capital on behalf of the Church of the Earth, had departed several days ago and still hadn't arrived.
War Freya had even caught sight of Life Freya’s carriage along the way.
Regardless, upon arriving near the capital, War Freya picked an empty, deserted wasteland to descend, simultaneously attempting to fling away the strange black mass in her hand.
But the black mass was like glue—sticky and viscous, clinging stubbornly to her arm. No matter how much she shook her arm, she couldn't dislodge it. It even began creeping along her arm toward the rest of her body.
War Freya swatted at it with her other hand, but to no avail. Looking around, she spotted a silhouette rapidly approaching in the distance and silently breathed a sigh of relief.
In the next second, War Freya vanished into thin air, recalled back into the system warehouse by her true self. Deprived of a host to cling to, the black mass plopped onto the ground.
The black substance seemed taken aback, bewildered as to why War Freya had suddenly disappeared. But driven by instinct, it rapidly spread outward, quickly expanding over a dozen meters until the ground looked as though draped in a filthy black cloth.
Then, the black mass swelled upward, ballooning into a sphere. A thick tangle of black tentacles sprouted from its central body, lashing wildly and erratically at their surroundings. At the same time, a voice muttered from within the sphere, “Destroy... Auxerre...”
Evidently, this voice belonged to the leader of the Holy Blessing Society. That didn't mean he was still alive; it merely meant that after losing control and transforming into a monster, a lingering fragment of obsession remained within its consciousness, driving the beast into motion.
This was the cult leader’s final vengeance! The Special Service had ruined his grand scheme, so he certainly wouldn't let them off easy!
Indeed, right until the end, the cult leader believed War Freya was an agent of the authorities.
However, after muttering those words, the monster’s flailing tentacles paused for a brief moment, as if struck by doubt—wait, this doesn't look like Auxerre, does it?
But its current brain capacity hardly allowed for such complex thought. A moment later, the monster resumed thrashing its tentacles, wreaking indiscriminate destruction upon the surroundings.
Just then, a figure stepped slowly out of the night. It was Trig, clad in pajamas with slippers on his feet. Law Freya’s tone had been deadly serious, so Trig hadn't dared waste any time, rushing straight out without even bothering to change his clothes. Looking at the monster before him, he frowned. “What the hell is this thing?”
The monster evidently spotted Trig as well. Seeing the only living person in the area, it instantly grew even more agitated. “Special Service? Kill! Revenge!”
The cult leader knew full well that after his demise, not a soul in all of Auxerre could stand against him. At most, a Mobile Squad might manage to contain him, but before any Mobile Squad could reach the city, he would have plenty of time to raze it to the ground!
Therefore, no matter who arrived, he would simply kill whoever came. Not to mention, the fellow before him looked utterly pathetic, dressed in pajamas—was this guy here to tell a joke?
Boom, boom, boom!
The black tentacles lashed wildly against the earth, each strike packing the force of a high-explosive grenade, blasting the ground apart with deafening detonations.
Among them, three tentacles snapped toward Trig like whips. Yet faced with this strike, Trig merely raised his right hand slightly and pressed his palm downward, as if tapping a button.
Wuuuum—!
In an instant, the three tentacles slammed violently into the dirt. Not only that, the monster’s entire body was forced flat against the ground, as though pinned beneath an immense weight.
“Kill... Revenge...!”
Even so, the monster struggled desperately, trying to stand back up. The three tentacles squirmed and crept along the earth, inching a few steps closer toward Trig.
Seeing this, Trig said nothing. He simply pressed his right hand down a fraction further. In the next second, not just the monster and the three tentacles, but even the ground around them collapsed violently downward by at least half a meter.
The monster was flattened like playdough, violently plastered to the ground. What Trig had done was actually exceedingly simple: he had amplified the gravity around the monster a hundredfold, nothing more.
Only now did a sliver of emotion resembling fear faintly stir within the monster’s consciousness. Yet it couldn't comprehend how on earth such a terrifying extraordinary could exist in a modest city like Auxerre.
...
Shifting back to Freya’s true self: having recalled War Freya into the system, she had no way of knowing the exact situation on Trig’s end. Still, she wasn't worried in the slightest. After all, she had once been Trig’s enemy and understood intimately just how terrifyingly strong he was; she didn't believe for a second that the monster could beat him.
All she had to do now was wait a while. Once Trig returned to the royal palace, he would naturally report the matter to Law Freya.
Yet just as Freya was thinking this, a prompt suddenly popped up before her eyes:
【Detected that the fourth death crisis has been successfully resolved. System upgrading...】
Freya: “?”
Following a brief stupor, the reality dawned on her. So the leader of the Holy Blessing Society had been the death crisis scheduled for three months down the line? And this death crisis had just been effortlessly resolved by her, just like that?
Her immediate reaction was that it felt completely surreal. Keep in mind, she hadn't even used a future simulation this time. At most, just one War Freya and one Mind Freya had punched right through this death crisis?
Could you say the leader of the Holy Blessing Society was weak? Not really—the guy had been quite formidable. But the threat he posed to Freya had never felt anywhere close to the magnitude of a "death crisis"!
Looking back at her previous death crises: the first was when Freya was still an ordinary person, cornered right outside her door by a Devil Pathway extraordinary. The second was General Jerome’s advancement ritual from Rank Five to Rank Six. And while Trig’s coup d’état in the capital technically didn't count as an official death crisis, all three of those instances had forced Freya to run countless simulations and exhaust every ounce of her wits just to survive!
By comparison, wasn't this Holy Blessing Society death crisis a bit too pathetic?
Even without turning to Trig for help—to say nothing of Law Freya—if her three clones, War, Life, and Mind, had simply joined forces, dealing with the cult leader wouldn't have been difficult in the slightest.
