Jiang Kaiwen naturally understood what He Chuan meant.
If photos of Jiang Yue's bandaged hand were leaked, the trending searches would likely spin out of control with claims of him being “injured on set.”
With that in mind, Jiang Kaiwen pulled out his phone to message Su Qing.
[Third Brother scraped his left arm. It was treated on set and isn't serious. Some leaked photos might get out later, so please keep an eye on it.]
Not long after the message was sent, Su Qing called.
Jiang Kaiwen glanced at Jiang Yue, answered the call, and put it on speaker.
Su Qing's voice came through: “Is the wound deep?”
Jiang Kaiwen replied, “Not deep. It was just rubbed raw by his wrist guard. The action choreographer checked him over—no issues with his bones or joints. We'll have the set doctor look at it again in a bit.”
Sitting nearby, Jiang Yue found it both amusing and ridiculous that they were talking about a superficial scrape as if he were about to undergo major surgery.
He lifted his left arm, and after confirming the bandage was wrapped neatly enough, he spoke up, “I'm fine.”
Su Qing said, “If any leaked photos get out, we'll explain it directly on our end.”
Jiang Yue glanced at Jiang Kaiwen, marveling internally that his minor scrape had already mobilized a three-way coordination effort between his studio, the film crew, and his agent.
Jiang Kaiwen gave him a helpless look but didn't argue with Su Qing.
They couldn't hide it from the fans anyway; keeping secrets would only make things worse.
Su Qing continued, “I'll wait for the crew's publicity team to align on the statement, then post an update on the studio's official account. We'll clarify that it's just a minor scrape caused by friction from his protective gear.”
He Chuan chimed in from the side at the right moment, “I'll have the promo team cooperate. At most, the photographers outside will only capture him dismounting and getting bandaged.”
Hearing He Chuan's voice, Su Qing's tone grew more polite. “Thank you, Director He. We'll follow the crew's lead and won't mislead the public.”
He Chuan said, “You guys are the professionals when it comes to handling this. I only have one bottom line: it shouldn't affect future filming, and we can't let the public think the crew doesn't care about the actors' safety.”
“Understood.”
After the call ended, Jiang Kaiwen looked down and refreshed Weibo a few times, but the news hadn't spread yet.
However, a crew member from the outer perimeter came over to report, “There are indeed a few people lingering around the parking area. But their lenses can only capture the path where the actors exit after wrapping up.”
He Chuan instructed after hearing this, “Keep an eye on them. If they cross the line, escort them out. If they don't, avoid any conflict.”
The crew member nodded and left to handle it.
Jiang Yue sat on the folding chair, the sleeve of his left arm rolled up.
Jiang Kaiwen handed the water back to him. “Drink.”
Jiang Yue took it and took a sip.
Jiang Kaiwen then opened the box of throat lozenges. “Take one.”
Jiang Yue was puzzled. “Only my hand is injured, right?”
“I know,” Jiang Kaiwen said expressionlessly. “But you've been shouting all day for your scenes, and your voice is hoarse.”
Jiang Yue had no choice but to take one.
On the other side, He Chuan had already started reviewing the playback, with Old Hong standing beside him.
On the monitor, every single one of Jiang Yue's movements on horseback was flawless.
He perfectly captured the desperation of a man terrified of death, pushed to his absolute limit, using every means he could think of to survive.
He Chuan watched it once, then rewound it to watch a second time.
“This take is usable. Once it's edited, it should turn out even better than I originally expected.”
Old Hong nodded. “We've finally found Lu Ji's fighting style.”
They wrapped up thirty minutes later than scheduled that day.
When Jiang Yue changed out of his costume, the set doctor inspected the wound again, confirming it was just a superficial scrape. The doctor instructed him to keep it dry tonight and change the dressings regularly.
Jiang Kaiwen stood nearby, deftly packing the sanitizing cotton swabs and spare gauze the doctor had provided into his bag.
When their car drove out of the outdoor set, there were indeed still a few people holding long lenses by the highway.
They kept their distance, and the security guards watched them from the side of the path without forcefully driving them away.
Jiang Yue leaned back in the rear seat, closing his eyes to rest.
Jiang Kaiwen sat next to him, scrolling through his phone. Suddenly, his fingers stopped.
“It's out.”
Jiang Yue opened his eyes. “What?”
Jiang Kaiwen handed the screen over.
On Weibo, a leak account had just posted a few long-range photos.
The photos weren't very clear due to the distance, but one could still make out Jiang Yue coming out of the set in his costume, his sleeves rolled up, and his left arm wrapped in bandages.
Jiang Kaiwen was walking beside him, holding a first aid kit, looking even more serious than the injured person himself.
The caption was simple:
【Spotted at 《The Pivot Bone》 set. Jiang Yue was suspected to have been injured today during an action scene. He seems to be in okay condition.】
The comment section was refreshing rapidly.
【Is that Lu Ji? He looks so battle-damaged.】
【First, let's make sure the injury isn't serious.】
【Can the crew pay more attention to safety? Don't actually break the actors while filming.】
【Jiang Yue's studio, please say something.】
Jiang Kaiwen frowned as he read. He handed the phone back to Jiang Yue. “I knew this would happen.”
Jiang Yue finished reading and returned the phone.
He had only scraped a bit of skin, yet the comment section was already speculating whether he could even continue filming.
He thought about it and simply said, “Su Qing will handle it.”
Sure enough, a few minutes later, a message from Su Qing arrived.
[The crew's publicity team has aligned on the statement. The studio will post an update in ten minutes.]
[Once you're back at the hotel, take a photo of the boss to explain the injury and soothe the fans' emotions.]
Jiang Kaiwen read it and replied with a "received."
He turned to Jiang Yue. “Once we're back, post on your personal Weibo to clarify things directly. Include a photo showing that you're still alive and kicking so the fans don't let their imaginations run wild.”
Jiang Yue leaned back against the seat. “What should I take a photo of?”
Jiang Kaiwen had already thought it through. “Just let everyone know you're still alive and reading the script. We need to prevent any rumors about the crew replacing you due to an injury.”
Jiang Yue glanced at him. “You don't need to use that exact phrasing with the fans.”
Jiang Kaiwen said calmly, “Of course I know that. I'm just telling you.”
The car fell silent for a couple of seconds.
Jiang Yue knew Jiang Kaiwen was still annoyed at him for being reckless with his own safety.
He didn't say anything more and closed his eyes to doze off again, though the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
Getting injured wasn't great, but having so many people care about him felt quite nice.
The streetlights outside the window slipped past one by one.
Ten minutes later, Yuchuan Studio's official account posted an update:
【During today's filming of 《The Pivot Bone》, Jiang Yue's left hand suffered a superficial scrape due to friction from his protective gear. The set doctor has sanitized and bandaged the wound. He is currently in normal condition, and this will not affect future filming. Thank you for your concern. Please rely on official updates and refrain from spreading unconfirmed rumors about his injury.】
After the two of them returned to the hotel, Jiang Yue's personal Weibo also posted an update. The attached photo showed his script spread out on the desk, with Jiang Yue sitting beside it flipping through the pages, his left sleeve rolled up just enough to reveal a sliver of white gauze.
The caption read: 【Thank you for your concern. It's just a simple scrape.】
The comment section was quickly flooded by fans.
【Thank goodness, thank goodness. It's just a minor injury.】
【The studio was really fast this time. They didn't leave us guessing.】
【Please be careful with the safety gear too! Brother Yue, don't push yourself too hard!】
【Lu Ji's battle-damaged look is gorgeous, but I need the real Jiang Yue to stay safe and sound!】
Jiang Kaiwen scrolled to the last comment and looked up at Jiang Yue.
Jiang Yue was looking down at his script, holding a pen in his right hand as he wrote new annotations next to his lines.
Jiang Kaiwen held back for a moment, but ultimately couldn't resist.
“Third Brother.”
“Hmm?”
“If you pull another stunt like this tomorrow, I'm really going to tell the family elders.”
Jiang Yue's pen paused.
Since Kaiwen had called him “Third Brother,” it meant his anger had mostly dissipated.
But the threat of "telling the family elders" made the smile instantly vanish from his face.
Tattling to anyone else would be fine.
But if he actually ended up tattling to Second Grandaunt, Jiang Yue knew that the moment he stepped foot in the house this year, he would be pinned to a chair and lectured about everything from set safety to his eating and sleeping habits—and the entire family would take turns doing it.
Jiang Yue stared at the leftover gauze on the desk for two seconds, letting out a silent sigh.
This threat had truly hit him where it hurt.
He looked up at Jiang Kaiwen, trying to salvage the situation. “It's just a work conflict. There's no need to escalate it to the family level.”
Jiang Kaiwen scoffed, asking mercilessly, “Oh, so you do know how to be afraid?”
Jiang Yue went quiet for a moment. “Mainly, Second Grandaunt is getting on in years. It's not good to make her worry over such a small thing.”
“So you do know it's something to worry about.”
Jiang Yue was truly left speechless this time. He could only look back down at his script.
Hey, would you look at that.
This script is really nice to look at. So white, and so square.
Watching Jiang Yue stare at the script as if he were trying to make flowers bloom out of it, Jiang Kaiwen almost laughed out loud. He placed the remaining bandaging supplies into a drawer, putting a definitive end to tonight's commotion.
Oh well. Who told him to be the agent?
He would just have to suffer the burden of keeping a very close eye on Jiang Yue.
