“God-Chosen Ones, don't run around. We are preparing to teleport shortly.”
Levinel cleared his throat and called out loudly to the noisy players on the array.
Glancing at the massive crowd of players outside the array who hadn't made it in, all of them straining their necks to squeeze forward, he felt a sudden throb in his temples.
He had guarded the defensive barrier in Windhaven Town for over a decade, dealing with magical beasts and malicious entities daily, yet none of that had been as exhausting as managing these God-Chosen Ones for half a day.
“Those who didn't squeeze in, don't worry!” he added helplessly. “There will be another trip after this one. No one will be left behind!”
With a deep sigh, he turned and waved his hand at Phelin. “Don't worry about them. Start it up.”
“Yes, Teacher.”
Phelin nodded.
Soon, accompanied by a low hum, a soft yet dazzling white light instantly blanketed the giant teleportation array, enveloping everyone inside.
A familiar weightlessness suddenly hit him. As a dizzying sensation of the world spinning wrapped around him, Nan Cheng instinctively closed his eyes.
When the weightlessness faded and Nan Cheng opened his eyes again, he found himself in a medieval human town brimming with the distinct fantasy style of Aenoria.
At the same time, the excited voices of players rang in his ears:
“Holy crap! Now this is what another world is supposed to look like!”
“The Player Town we built before was in Earth's style, but this town has the perfect vibe! The medieval atmosphere is off the charts!”
“Let's go, let's go! Stop chatting! Head to the beach! Let's hurry to the seaside and check it out! If there really are mermaids, we have to take a screenshot!”
“Right, right! Hurry up, let's go!”
The players dispersed in a flash, scattering to explore various parts of the town, though the ultimate goal for most was the eastern coastline.
Meanwhile, Tris, who had remained in Windhaven Town, was completely dumbfounded.
He had been carrying a stack of magic books from the Mage Tower toward the teleportation array. Suddenly, a white light flashed, and a dense crowd of people appeared out of thin air in the center of town.
Every single one of them was highly excited, looking around as if they had been injected with adrenaline.
Tris's heart skipped a beat. He set the books down and immediately gripped his staff tightly.
What's going on? An enemy raid?
But on second thought, what invading army would start cheering and celebrating the moment they landed?
Furthermore, the destination that teleportation array connected to was the evacuation site, a place protected by Her Divinity, the Goddess. Nothing should have gone wrong there.
He couldn't help but hesitate.
But then, he spotted a familiar figure in the crowd.
The Saintess was stepping down from the edge of the teleportation array at a leisurely pace, her expression calm and completely devoid of any tension associated with an "enemy invasion."
Tris breathed a sigh of relief and loosened his grip on his staff.
“Saintess Lilith,” he greeted, quickly stepping forward and bowing respectfully.
“Tris,” Lilith acknowledged with a slight nod, her tone gentle.
Tris straightened up. Watching the players who had already scattered, he couldn't help but ask, “Saintess, those people just now were...?”
“They are the God-Chosen Ones summoned from another world by Her Divinity. They are kind-hearted and have come to help us. They harbor no ill intent.”
Knowing he must have misunderstood, Lilith explained softly.
God-Chosen Ones? That means they are divine envoys?!
Tris was shocked, cold sweat breaking out across his back.
Fortunately, he hadn't rashly attacked just now, or things would have been incredibly awkward.
Still, he felt a bit puzzled:
Why do these divine envoys look so... happy? And since most of Windhaven Town's residents have already evacuated, what are they doing here?
Lilith noticed his confusion. Rather than explaining in detail, she asked:
“Tris, why are you still in Windhaven Town? Everyone should have finished evacuating by now.”
Hearing this, Tris gave a bitter smile. “Saintess, there are still many magic books in the Mage Tower that need to be moved. These are our heritage, and there are simply too many of them. I'm afraid it will take quite some time to transport them all.”
“So that's how it is...” Lilith realized.
She knew how crucial the collection in the Mage Tower was. They were not just the heritage of Windhaven Town, but the very last intellectual treasures of the remaining Church of Light.
Every single volume carried a piece of history; every single page was invaluable.
Since she knew about this, she couldn't just ignore it.
She fell into contemplation.
Their conversation was overheard perfectly by Nan Cheng and the others standing nearby.
Magic books?
They exchanged glances.
Bruce was the first to step forward, grinning as he said:
“Miss Lilith! Let me do it! Pfft, a minor task like moving books is perfect for me. I'm super strong!”
Bing Lin also nodded, her expression earnest. “If you need help, I can assist at any time. Besides—” she paused, a hint of curiosity in her eyes, “I am also quite interested in the magic books of this world.”
Naturally, Nan Cheng wouldn't fall behind. He smiled warmly and said, “Many hands make light work. With us helping out, we can get these books moved back to Castellan much sooner.”
This was a prime opportunity to farm Lilith's favorability, and the more chances to show off like this, the better.
Energetic Foxfox was still thinking about her promise to go see the sea with Chinatsu, but seeing how enthusiastic everyone was, she could only nod in agreement.
Well, Little Chinatsu will just have to wait a bit.
I hope that kid doesn't wander off.
Seeing how eager they were, Lilith's eyes crinkled into a gentle, beautiful smile. “Then I shall trouble you all with this.”
The moment her words fell, a system notification rang in their ears simultaneously:
【System Notification: Triggered side quest "Mage Tower Tome Transfer". Do you accept?】
Without any hesitation, they all clicked "Accept."
Tris was incredibly surprised. He hadn't expected the God-Chosen Ones to be so willing to help with such a minor chore.
He had thought the God-Chosen Ones would be highly aloof.
Her Divinity's envoys really don't put on airs.
He couldn't help but marvel, and his faith in the Goddess grew even more devout.
...
Meanwhile, at the eastern edge of Windhaven Town.
The players who had run all over town were now gathered here. They had been excitedly rushing to see the sea, but the moment they reached the edge of town, they collectively hit a wall.
“Holy crap! What is this?!”
The player running at the very front crashed hard into a transparent barrier, crouching down while clutching his forehead.
The players behind him stopped upon seeing this.
“An invisible wall?!”
Everyone was dumbfounded, gathering around the unseen barrier to tap and feel it.
“That's not right. The map doesn't show a boundary here. This should be an open area.”
“Could it be a bug?”
Someone in the crowd suddenly cleared their throat and spoke up in a leisurely manner:
“Cough, you guys don't know about this, do you? If it were an official map boundary, a chibi Goddess would pop up and say in a cute, childish voice, 'God-Chosen One, please explore the area ahead later.'”
“How do you know that so clearly?” someone nearby asked in confusion.
The player replied with a proud face, “Well, I just love running to the map boundaries when I have nothing to do. I didn't expect to discover the chibi Goddess, so I tested it dozens of times at the map edge! Let me tell you, the chibi Goddess is absolutely adorable!”
The surrounding players: “...”
“You seriously have too much free time...”
“But wait, cough cough... is the chibi Goddess really that cute?”
“Uh...”
After chatting for a bit, the players quickly got back on track.
They kept feeling around the invisible barrier. Some even raised their hands, preparing to use skills to blast the wall, testing if they could exploit a bug to clip through and sneak past.
Just as the group of players was trying all kinds of antics to frantically test the invisible wall, a gentle, puzzled female voice sounded from behind them:
“God-Chosen Ones, what are you all doing gathered here?”
