The fifth floor had only a boys’ restroom and no girls’ restroom, but at this point, nobody cared.
Ye Li and Luo Jiajia walked straight toward the end of the corridor. Yi Lin and Le Jun didn’t follow, waiting instead outside the classroom in the middle of the hall.
The two walked one behind the other at an unhurried pace. The light behind them receded, slowly stretching their shadows and thinning them out, wavering like two clawing, posturing specters.
Arriving before the restroom, Ye Li posted herself at the doorway and said, “Go ahead. I’ll wait for you here.”
Luo Jiajia froze. “You’re not going?”
Ye Li said, “No.”
Luo Jiajia immediately looked uneasy, her voice trembling slightly. “B-But I’m scared to go in alone. Come inside with me.”
“I’m not in the habit of going into the boys’ room!” A flash of impatience crossed Ye Li’s face as she pointed toward a corner of the corridor. “If you’re really that scared, you can always handle your business right there. Nobody’s going to notice anyway. Why insist on going into the restroom?”
Luo Jiajia’s expression grew awkward, her eyes flickering evasively.
After an internal struggle, she bit her lip and said, “Then can you at least open the door and turn on the light for me?”
Ye Li didn’t refuse this time. She kicked the door open and reached out to feel for the wall switch.
Watching the petite girl standing before her in the doorway, Luo Jiajia gritted her teeth, steeled her heart, raised her hands, and shoved her with all her might.
She didn’t want to hurt anyone either, but she really didn’t want to die. She had no choice but to be sorry...
Yet the instant her hands were about to make contact with the girl, the light in the restroom suddenly flicked on.
The abrupt burst of light made Luo Jiajia squint instinctively. A dark blur seemed to flash past her eyes, and in the next second, her hands met nothing but air. Her footing gave way, and she pitched forward.
With a heavy thud, Luo Jiajia slammed flat onto the floor.
She immediately realized something was wrong, her face instantly turning as pale as paper. Ignoring the throbbing ache racking her body, she scrambled up in sheer panic, spinning around to flee.
Yet the restroom door slammed shut right in front of her with a loud bang, as if welded shut with steel. No matter how frantically she pulled and twisted the handle, it wouldn’t open.
“...Let me out... Save me... Somebody save me...”
Luo Jiajia pounded desperately on the door, screaming in terror.
At this moment, boundless fear enveloped her like a dense net, devouring whatever sanity remained in her mind and pushing her to the brink of collapse.
“Screeech—skrrrt—”
Suddenly, an eerie sound rose behind her.
It sounded like fingernails dragging forcefully across glass—shrill, piercing, grating, and deeply terrifying.
Luo Jiajia froze instantly. Her throat bobbed as she turned around, slowly and with immense difficulty.
Then her pupils contracted sharply, and a bloodcurdling shriek tore from her throat: “Aaagh—!”
From the large mirror above the sink, a pair of pale, withered hands had eerily protruded into the air.
The long, blackened nails on those fingers were scraping against the mirror’s surface, stroke by stroke...
Meanwhile, Ye Li, who had sidestepped out of the way, only saw Luo Jiajia stumble into the restroom before the door banged shut.
She pondered for a moment, then reached out and pushed the door open once more.
Inside, Luo Jiajia had already gotten to her feet. She stood motionless before the sink, looking completely off.
Ye Li shifted her stance slightly to adjust her angle, and immediately caught Luo Jiajia’s reflection in the large mirror above the sink.
Her face was void of expression, her eyes vacant and unfocused, like an inert, lifeless puppet.
Then, she slowly raised her hands. With her right hand gripping her upper jaw and her left grasping her lower jaw, she began to wrench them apart with brute force.
First, the corners of her mouth tore open, then the rips tore into her cheeks, stretching all the way back to the base of her ears—from skin to muscle, and finally to bone...
As the tears widened and great gouts of blood poured forth, an expression of agonizing pain appeared on Luo Jiajia’s face.
Yet her hands didn’t hesitate in the slightest, tearing her own mouth apart inch by bloody inch...
Most bizarre of all, Ye Li, standing outside the door, felt as though she were watching a live pantomime from start to finish. Not a single sound escaped into the hall; only the horrific visuals shifted and unfolded.
Only when Luo Jiajia had torn her head almost completely in half, wrenching her lower jaw clean off before collapsing in a heap—dead as dead could be—did a sickening, overpowering stench of blood suddenly burst into the air.
It was as though a transparent dome had previously kept Luo Jiajia completely sealed inside.
And only now was that dome abruptly lifted, exposing everything once again.
Having witnessed this bizarre “suicide” with her own eyes, Ye Li’s expression turned grim, and her stomach churned uncomfortably.
It was entirely too graphic!
Yet the entire process had taken less than two minutes.
Ye Li’s gaze darkened. Drawing back the hand that held the door, she leaned out to look toward the neighboring stairwell.
Sure enough, the wall blocking the path had vanished once again.
“Over here!” Ye Li immediately waved to Le Jun and the other down the corridor.
The two hurried over, thoroughly surprised to see the stairs back in view.
Le Jun asked in confusion, “How did the path open up? Where’s Luo Jiajia?”
“In the restroom,” Ye Li said. “She’s dead.”
“Dead?” Le Jun was shocked. “How did she die?”
Not even five minutes had passed, and another person was dead?
Ye Li said, “Suicide.”
“Suicide? Why would she commit suicide out of nowhere?” Le Jun was increasingly bewildered.
After struggling to hold out this far, there was no reason on earth for her to do something like that!
The corners of Ye Li’s lips curled into a subtle smirk as she glanced at Yi Lin, who stood silently to the side, and said calmly, “You’ll have to ask Yi Lin what she told Luo Jiajia that made her so eager to rush to her death.”
She paused, then added, “Mm... or perhaps I shouldn’t call you Yi Lin. After all, the real Yi Lin probably died in that mirror a long time ago!”
Yi Lin looked up, a cold sneer playing on her lips. “I have no idea what you’re talking about!”
“Is that so?” Ye Li smiled as well, her eyes piercing. “I think you know very well!”
The smile finally vanished from Yi Lin’s face. Glaring with cold, venomous eyes at the girl before her, she snarled shrilly, her face twisting into a hideous grimace, “I hate you! Die!”
Before the words even finished leaving her mouth, she struck without warning. Raising a shard of glass she had hidden in her palm, she drove it viciously toward Ye Li’s neck.
The turn of events occurred in an instant.
Off to the side, Le Jun couldn’t react in time, watching helplessly as the sharp, gleaming edge plunged toward the girl.
Yet before the words “Watch out!” could even leave his mouth, the girl had already moved.
Her left hand shot out, seizing Yi Lin’s striking wrist. Twisting her body, she clamped her right hand down onto Yi Lin’s shoulder, wrenching backward and pressing downward with all her strength, slamming her flat onto the floor in one fluid motion.
Then, she planted her foot firmly into Yi Lin’s armpit, bearing down with her foot while wrenching back hard with both hands.
With a sharp crack and a bloodcurdling shriek from Yi Lin, her entire right arm was cleanly and brutally dislocated.
Dislocated!
