The giant fire dragon spiraled and crashed into the frost phoenix. Ice and fire exploded in midair at the same time, turning into a massive cloud of rising white mist.
Lightning tore through the white mist, condensing into a dense electric net.
The light lotus bloomed above the electric net, and the falling rain of light purified every single remaining monster.
It was as if a grand magic festival had appeared in midair, so gorgeous it was almost dreamlike, yet so violent it was terrifying.
Who knew elegant magic could be used in such a violent way?
At first, Xie Zhouxing could still use sound to determine Cen Yao's location.
But gradually, the explosions of fire, the rumbles of thunder and lightning, the cracking of ice, and the shrieks of the monsters merged into one, completely drowning out Cen Yao's footsteps and breathing.
He only knew that different sensations kept exploding around him.
One moment he felt hot enough to be roasted alive, the next he was shivering so hard his teeth chattered, and the next his ears were filled with nothing but thunder.
“Cen Yao!”
Xie Zhouxing clung tightly to the broomstick. “Are you still there?”
There was no response.
“Cen Yao?”
He called out again, but there was still no answer.
Xie Zhouxing froze for a moment. Had she flown off?
He listened closely to his surroundings. The fire was still burning, occasional explosions echoed in the distance, and the wind whistled past his ears.
But Cen Yao was not nearby, and Xie Zhouxing's heart sank bit by bit.
“Hey, Cen Yao!”
“Where did you go?”
Still, there was no sound. He reached out blindly and patted the broom beneath him.
“Do you know where she went?” Naturally, the broom did not answer.
It merely hovered quietly in midair, leaving Xie Zhouxing with no choice but to hug the broomstick tightly.
“Cen Yao, come out quickly.”
“I don't want to fall.” These words were spoken very softly.
There was none of his usual flamboyant tone, nor any of his narcissistic self-references like “this young master” or “this handsome guy.”
He was genuinely a little scared. He was blind during the day.
Now, he was being carried high into the sky by a broom that might go crazy at any moment, with ruins beneath his feet, howling wind all around him, and Cen Yao nowhere to be found.
Forget fighting; right now, he didn't even know how high he was from the ground.
If the broom suddenly vanished or went slightly out of control, he would plunge straight down from the high altitude.
Clutching the broom, Xie Zhouxing forced himself to find comfort.
“It's fine.”
“Cen Yao is so strong, nothing could have happened to her.”
“She must have chased after those monsters.”
“She'll be back in a bit.”
But after waiting for about five minutes, the surroundings gradually fell quiet.
The shrieks of the monsters had vanished, and the magical explosions had ceased. Only the wind howling through the high altitude remained.
Xie Zhouxing slowly relaxed a bit. Cen Yao must have finished off all the monsters.
Since she could slaughter so many things on her own, she definitely wouldn't be in any danger.
Xie Zhouxing suddenly felt that waiting like this wasn't so bad. As long as he could hold out until nightfall, when his Talent unsealed, he would be able to see.
When that time came, he would descend handsomely from the darkness, find Cen Yao who had been captured by monsters, and slice all the enemies to pieces with blades formed from the night.
He even began to picture the scene in his head.
Night would fall, and the moonlight would cascade down. His long black hair would flutter in the wind, with churning darkness behind him, the night obeying his commands like a tide.
Meanwhile, Cen Yao would be held captive by a monster, looking up at him.
“Xie Zhouxing, you're finally here.”
He would then raise his chin, flashing an incredibly handsome smile.
“Don't be afraid.”
“The night is under my control now.”
“Your savior has arrived.”
At this thought, Xie Zhouxing couldn't help but chuckle.
“Hehehe~” He was right at the climax of his fantasy.
Suddenly, the space beneath his feet went empty.
A massive pulling force surged from below.
Xie Zhouxing suddenly slipped right off the broom.
“Huh?”
Before he could react, something wrapped tightly around his waist.
The next second.
“Ahhhhhhhh!”
Xie Zhouxing's screams echoed across the ruins.
“Help, ahhhhh!”
“Cen Yao!”
“Lady Witch!”
“This young master is falling!”
The force dragged him downward continuously.
Xie Zhouxing clung to the broomstick for dear life, but his legs were already dangling in the air.
The thing wrapped around his waist was cold and slippery, its surface covered in fine barbs that were slowly digging into his clothes.
The broom froze in midair for a second.
Immediately after, the entire shaft began to vibrate violently.
It was the Lady Witch's exclusive broom, a magical item.
What kind of thing dared to fight it for a passenger?
The broom flew into a rage on the spot.
It abruptly turned around and dived toward Xie Zhouxing's position.
Feeling the broom draw near, Xie Zhouxing quickly reached out and grabbed the broomstick.
“I got it!”
Just as he breathed a sigh of relief, the thing wrapped around him suddenly tightened its grip.
Crack.
A cringe-inducing crack echoed from Xie Zhouxing's waist, and his expression instantly changed.
“Wait!”
“Stop pulling!”
The force below obviously didn't hear, or rather, didn't care at all.
Xie Zhouxing could only judge by touch and the sound of the wind that he was being dragged by a vine.
The vine had crawled out from a crack in the ruins below. Its surface was covered in black thorns, and at the base of the thorns were countless tiny mouths.
Each mouth kept opening and closing, as if trying to bite a chunk of flesh off him.
Sensing the broom pulling upward, the vine monster was instantly enraged as well.
More vines burst from beneath the ground, intertwining to tightly bind Xie Zhouxing's waist, legs, and arms, dragging him downward.
Meanwhile, the broom flew upward frantically.
For a moment, Xie Zhouxing was caught in the middle.
Above him was the broom desperately charging upward.
Below him were the vines pulling downward with all their might.
And in the middle was Xie Zhouxing.
...
Xie Zhouxing went silent for two seconds.
“Stop!”
There was no response.
“Stop!”
Both sides completely ignored him.
Xie Zhouxing's body was pulled taut, his waist bearing the brunt of the two opposing forces, feeling as if it would snap in half the next second.
“My waist!”
“It's really going to break!”
The broom shrieked as it surged upward.
The vine monster wrapped tighter and tighter, its tiny black mouths biting his clothes and making soft chewing noises.
Dangling in midair, Xie Zhouxing felt less like a person being rescued and more like a piece of cargo being fought over by two groups of bandits.
“Cen Yao!”
“Help!”
“Come back quickly!”
His cries were scattered by the wind, and there was no response from the distance.
Xie Zhouxing gritted his teeth, gripping the broomstick with all his might.
“This young master is warning you!”
“If you keep pulling like this and my waist breaks, none of you will have a good time!”
The vines continued to drag downward, and the broom continued to surge upward.
Crack!
Xie Zhouxing felt another soft crack from his waist.
His vision went dark.
“!!!!!”
“Cen Yao!!!”
“I'm really going to break!!!”
